Download Themes
Download themes for CMS Made Simple, you can use with the Theme Manager.
These themes are uploaded here are contributed by independant third parties as a free service. The CMS Made Simple project make no guarantees that the themes available here are functional, tested, valid or compatible with your system. You are encouraged to read the information found in any help files for each theme before attempting the installation. (xml files may not contain help files.)
XML themes
In site admin go to Layout » Theme Manager second tab 'Import', Browse to find .xml file on your comp. dbl. click it, should now be showing in the box, click Import, it will take you back to first tab.
Now go to Layout » Templates under 'Active' you see a red X click that to activate the theme/template, now you can use it...
Zipped themes
Some of these templates come zipped, so you need to take all the images and put them in a folder in uploads/images/, or the file may have a read me which will tell you where to put them, if not when you look at the CSS you will see the path it looks for...
Then open the template file with an editor like notepad, not word pad or word they may add formatting I use the free PSPad editor...
Then copy/paste it into a new template in the admin Layout » Templates at the bottom click Add New Template name it and paste the code in Content: edit box, erasing any thing in it first, click Submit...
Open the CSS file copy/paste into new CSS, Layout » Stylesheets, Add a Stylesheet, name it and paste the code in Content: edit box, erasing any thing in it first, click Submit...
If it came with a .mm file rename it to have .txt then open it in notepad, copy it, then in admin go to Layout » Menu Manager and Add Template name it and paste the code in Content: edit box, click Submit...
You may need to adjust the Template to reflect the name you gave the Menu Template...
Then go back to Layout » Templates and across from the new template right side click the little orange CSS icon you will be at Layout » Templates » Current Associations at the bottom is a drop down for 'Add a Stylesheet' find your new stylesheet click it and it should show in the drop down window, click Add a Stylesheet and it should show in the upper part...
Now it should work...

Hmm I see all comments on all pages. Please give more details....
If no red x appears after installing an xml, what do you do? I have tried 3 themes and no x is appearing.
thanks
I tried to install and activate the oranage theme.
Had to give it up, either I'm the most stupid guy here or this installation tut is not really for newbies. I manage easily to install and activate themes in Mambo Joomla and Typo but here, no chance.
@Ella
If you don't see red X you need to go to Layout » Templates
No red X on same page as importing/exporting
@renand
Which oranage theme?
@ tern
Which ones?
Guess I should come here more...
Please to leave some way to contact you, like forum nick...
I can't get any of the themes I picked to work. I get DTD mismatch errors...
I have tried BBM-Business, Panoramica, & Softened_Cells
Tested BBM-Business.xml right now and it works stright away!
what is cms? I'm looking to get a site up to sell software - needing good SEO. Is cms right for me?
I'm a non-techie.
To bill
CMS Made Simple can make realy nice SEO optimized sites. But it require you know to work with templates, css and smarty.
CMSMS can do all you want if you know how to do it.
For shopping system it depends that you need. CMSMS have some basic cart system modules but not advanced functionality in that direction.
Want a website with houses to rent - Can I use cms made simple and will soneone help me ?
god bless you people - wonderful work. thank you.
Is there a prize for the dumbest question?!!
I want it, I want it!
So... with these themes, is it a simple affair to change the colours behind the Navigation buttons/sidebars and leave the centre white. (e.g the simple 3 column ones)
wonderfull themes

Well I am not renand but someone who share these thoughts.
It is now October 2009 and I guess lots of work has been done in CMS made simple but not on the "Theme" side.
Quite a few CMS just need to drop a folder then click to activate and new themes are up in a breeze. Not yet the case with CMSMS.
If this part was easier, I bet you would get a lot more users...
Ingles:
Does not work any themes?
Look at the routes of the images. I have corrected a path in the full Green, who has a bug in the path of the images. By default puts / your installation directory / uploads / Green and should be according css / uploads / green. Only by changing the letter "G" Green directory that originally appeared in uppercase with a "g" minuscula, is working properly. Greetings. Observe this. Can occur with other themes and can drive you crazy. Greetings.
P.D. Excuse my English, but Google talk for me.
Español: ¿No funciona algun tema?
Saludos.
CMS Made Suck, not a 'Simple' theme installer.. Too much time wasted with this. I worked with more CMS's but this is terrible nerd shit. Good luck
Suppose you would like to install a new theme. Great themes are found here. Ok, how should I install a theme?
Let's take a look at the help "how to install a theme".
Read: "In site admin go to Layout » Theme Manager second tab 'Import', Browse to find .xml file on your comp" Ok, but there are no XML files in this theme, so now?
Read: "take all the images and put them in a folder in uploads/images/..." Yeah right, what folder and then? Read: "or the file may have a read me which will tell you where to put them" No, there is no read me file in there. And now?
Read: "Then open the template file with an editor like notepad" What template? a html file? There is no .tpl file included? Read: "If it came with a .mm file rename it.."No there is no such file here... And now? Read: "Now it should work..."
Yeah right, nice those themes.....
It is not surpising that there are almost no themes here .... no one knows how to deal with them :-)
For those of you who were as ABSOLUTELY CONFUSED as I was with the templating/theming of CMSms try this link:
http://cmsmadesimple.org/uploads/media/mint_chocolate.htm
Creating a custom theming is easy enough. But the info presented on this site is like trying to sort spaghetti. The video should help. I think we're all spoiled but Drupal, Joomla and WordPress :-D
Best regards
Erin
